about

one of the founding philosophies of this arts label is the belief that music is a prism through which we develop our relation to the world. on our best days this allows us to commune with others, elaborating and articulating upon the meaning we thus create. to compose for the sake of presence, of doing, to find transcendence in the emergence of this liberatory action, and to create the conditions for communication on a greater plane.

three movements is relational music, an interpersonal offering founded in exploration and release, among three musicians who met by chance while on staff at the museum of contemporary art in downtown los angeles. learning of one another's enthusiasm for composition, marc merza, zach andrews, and 10.4 ROG found solidarity and friendship in weekly collaboration, and from a garage in el sereno - hence the name of this trio - these three movements emerged.

grown from a foundation of modular patches, each movement raises closer to the sun as a single musician introduces a new sonic texture to the ensemble. in this dialogue, that could mean the swelling of a synth patch from zach andrews, the warmth of a guitar tone from marc merza, or the widening dynamic of a piano melody from 10.4 ROG. to listen deeply is to hear a narrative unfold in stories of strength and perseverance ("movement one"), of belief in oneself and community to push beyond paradigmatic boundary ("movement two"), and upon this conviction acknowledge the changes that have occurred in both oneself and the environment that surrounds ("movement three"). sereno marks a moment of intersection in these three lives, of nourishing collective meaning, and finding common ground within kindred energies.
