a collection of intimate portraits and moving moments as told by our friend, flautist, guitarist, and storyteller Barry Archie Johnson. initially released in 2016 as a run of fifty handmade cd's, it's our honor to bring Boardwalks back into being as a run of seventy-five cassettes made with reverence and care every step of the way.

with updated artwork from Natalie Phillips, we wanted to highlight Barry's move to Los Angeles, shifting the focus of the cover from a view of the Niagara Falls skyline to the boardwalk of his new home, a longview of the Pacific Ocean gazing towards our iconic Santa Monica Pier.

knowing that Barry has new music on the horizon line with the beloved VDSQ, we simply wanted to honor the songwriting that brought us into his world to begin with, and offer these artifacts among our friends who've celebrated his presence and craft here in LA. though this collection will likely be new to most, our friend has shared stages and collaborations with contemporaries such as William Tyler, Dear Nora, Vetiver, Hayden Pedigo, Patrick Shiroishi, Walt McClements, and Mutual Benefit.

perhaps it's the whispers of the great fingerstyle guitarists in his own distinct voicing, or the clear timbre in his natural falsetto while singing, but fundamentally we just appreciate the gentle humanity that Barry brings into this world through his music and friendship. with that, we bring you the rerelease of an album we hold close to the heart, Barry Archie Johnson's Boardwalks.
